Lewis Kent
LEWIS KENT started his racing career indoor karting in Colchester. He improved rapidly and it wasn’t long before he was winning races. At that point his family took the decision to purchase a kart and start racing with the big boys!
Although Lewis was a 4th generation karter, racing as a Father & Son team, the learning curve was a steep one as engines and equipment had changed so much over the years. He raced for 2 years in the Comer Cadet class mainly at Ellough Park, Red Lodge and Rye House, achieving a great deal of success but at 10 years old he received permission to move up to Minimax, which although very early, seemed the way forward.
Being only 10 he seemed to get pushed around a lot by the bigger more experienced racers, but he soon learnt to fight back and it wasn’t long before trophies were coming his way. At 13 Lewis moved on to Junior Rotax, and then one of the first Junior X30 competitors later racing senior X30.
During his kart-racing days, Lewis competed all over the country in Formula Kart Stars and Super One but also raced in European and World events. He even went to Las Vegas to race in the Super Nationals.
In 2015, Lewis raced in the winter series senior X30 at PFI where he finished 4th in the championship. He then left karting to race Ford Fiesta Junior championship. Lewis was now 15 and had never driven a car, but it took only a short while before he was racing competitively, taking his first podium at Castle Combe. Lewis had his share of accidents during the year including rolling the car at Brands Hatch, but he came through the challenges of the first year, finishing in 6th place overall in the Championship.
2016 saw Lewis back racing Junior Fiesta and although he had his share of bad luck during the first part of the season, he became a consistent top 6 finisher to finish 5th overall out of 21 entrants.
2017 will see Lewis moving up to Senior Fiesta but will also see him in a Sports 2000 doing the enduro rounds at Spa and Brands Hatch with his father Warren and making a one-off appearance back in a Kart racing X30 in Valencia Spain in February.
